These in-depth workshops are ideal for instructors and practitioners of all levels who wish to deepen their knowledge of yoga, meditation, and pranayama. SAFE BACK BENDS FOR EVERYONE

Backbends can range from simple to complex but all are based on a foundation of anatomical principles that can be applied to proper sequencing to help make backbends accessible and safe. We will explore the nuances of Urdhva Mukha Svanasana, Dhanurasana, Ustrasana, and Urdhva Dhanurasana. We will use props and offer modifications to make these sometimes challenging poses more doable.

FUNDAMENTALS OF INVERSIONS

Inversions can be intimidating, however, understanding certain concepts that can be applied to practicing these poses, such as bandhas, pranayama, anatomy, can make these postures more accessible. Proper sequencing can also help adequately prepare the body to practice these postures. We will explore the nuances of these common inversions: Urdhva Mukha Vrksasana, Sirsasana, Pincha Mayurasana and Salamba Sarvangasana.

YOGA FORMA: A VISUAL RESOURCE GUIDE FOR THE SPINE AND LOWER BACK

This workshop highlights the physical benefits of yoga emphasizes the complementary aspects of science and Western medical disciplines and offers recommendations for practicing yoga to address lower back pain as featured in the book, “Yoga Forma: A Visual Resource Guide for the Spine and Lower Back.” Anatomy and biomechanics (kinesiology) will be highlighted as participants explore the nuances of traditional yoga asanas through lectures, observation, and practice. Emphasis will be placed on refining your practice, and injury prevention for healthy practitioners and for those with diagnosed health conditions. Conditions related to lower back pain, such as sciatica, lumbar sprain, herniated discs, scoliosis, stenosis, spondylosis, and more, will be discussed. Be prepared to move, all levels are welcome!
This workshop is ideal for:
● Yoga instructors and practitioners who wish to gain more knowledge about yoga asana, functional anatomy & kinesiology to use in a classroom setting with individuals or for self-practice.
● Health care professionals and bodyworkers who want to deepen their knowledge and understanding of yoga to utilize in treatment or programming (physical therapists, nurses, Pilates, personal trainers, athletes, dancers, etc.)
● Individuals who have been diagnosed with physical conditions and injuries who want to participate safely in yoga classes.
● Healthy active, people who want to improve self-awareness and Injury prevention (CECs- 2.5 or 3.0 contact hours, Anatomy and Physiology, YACEP)

The core is essential to practicing many poses in yoga and preventing back pain. In this session, we will practice and explore a more mindful approach to engaging our core by applying the use of subtle elements such as Chakras, specific pranayama techniques, bandhas, and props.
We will work on trying to enhance our awareness and connect to the deeper muscles in our core, understanding the significance of the breath in the process, and more! Yoga teachers receive 2 CE hours through Yoga Alliance with attendance.

Overcome your fear and awaken to the courage an inversion can bring. Inversions can be intimidating. However, understanding certain concepts that can be applied to practicing these poses, such as yogic locks called bandhas, breath work or pranayama, and knowledge of anatomy, can make these postures more accessible. Lead into these more challenging poses by preparing the body with proper sequencing. Have fun and surprise yourself in this workshop!
We will explore the nuances of these common inversions: Pinca Mayurasana, and Salamba Sarvangasana.
This workshop is for all levels. Participants will use blocks, blankets, and straps during this workshop.
